THE REDRESS PROJECT AT BLOOR STREET
The REDress Project was created by Metis artist Jaime Black in Winnipeg to
bring public attention to the issue of MMIWG -Missing and Murdered Indigenous
Women and Girls. She collected red dresses for an installation in public spaces
to honour the over 1200 MMIWG in Canada.
Jaime Black has encouraged REDress Projects across Canada. She aims to provoke dialogue about violence against indigenous women and girls. REDress now includes those who identify as Two Spirit. Previous versions in Toronto have appeared at the University of Toronto and York University.
Bloor Street United Church is joining other churches on Bloor St. to create
our REDress Project in June. We are designing our own REDress installation for our courtyard
and property. Our thanks to those who have donated red dresses and jeans
for our installation project.
