Youth On Bloor

Overcoming Violence by Daniel Yoon
In this feverish time of war rhetoric, anxiety and fear, I see a glimmer of hope in my surroundings. Not just hope that the powers-that-be might listen to the millions of people around the world marching for peace. more...

Youth on Bloor Project Overview

“Youth on Bloor” is the joint youth and young adult ministry of three neighboring United Church of Canada congregations in the vicinity of Spadina and Bloor. The youth ministry has a shared leadership of youth, aged 14 and up, and adults in a dynamic ministry of social engagement, recreation and leadership development.

Funders have the opportunity to contribute to a unique program in training youth for leadership in overcoming inequality and oppression. The dynamic intercultural experience will prepare youth to be sensitive leaders in a multicultural world that seeks to overcome the violence of our past, and respond to violence in our time.

In addition this project will:

  • Invigorate youth ministry in three congregations in Toronto.
  • Create direct connections between the people involved in the project and in life and work of their individual churches including committee work, decision making and governance processes.
  • Impart new skills and develop those skills for future replication.
  • Youth participants will be exposed to a new language and culture
