Canada HomeShare™ is a not-for-profit intergenerational housing solution designed and developed by the National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly (NICE). They match older adult home providers (55+) who may have extra space in their homes with students who are looking for safe and affordable housing.
Their work, carried out by social workers, aims to support older adults to continue living at home while increasing off-campus housing options for college and university students. Students pay reduced rent of $400-$600 per month directly to the home care provider while providing companionship and/or up to seven (7) hours per week of assistance around the home. Additionally, they operate in accordance with all COVID-19 safety protocols.
