Lenten Book Study: The Last Week
Date:
Monday, February 19, 2024
Time:
4:15pm to 5:45pm
Location:
Zoom
Description:
Everyone from both congregations is invited to a 6-week Lenten book study. It will be held on Zoom on our usual Zoomchurch (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/3616118730?pwd=MmY5THYwenhlS2JyaS8rS1ZmR0Mydz09) link, weekly on Mondays from 4:15-5:45pm, beginning on Monday, February 19th. It will run until March 25.
We will be discussing The Last Week by Marcus J. Borg and John Dominic Crossan. Using Mark's gospel as a guide, they present a day-by-day account of Jesus' final week of life. They intentionally play on the term «passion», opposing Jesus' passion for the Justice of God, a fair share for all, against the familiar emphasis on his «suffering» (Passion Week). The book sets the events of the week into the political and cultural context of the time; this realism should inspire insight and lively discussion.
The day-by-day organization of the book is well suited to our weekly plan, and several members of the congregation will take turns leading the discussions.
Please get your copy of the book from the library, or by purchasing a copy at your local bookstore or online.
