Ode’min Giizas Strawberry Moon Sacred Fire, Lodge, Feast, & Ceremony

June 14, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Strawberry is first of the Berries, whose Medicine is Reconciliation. Full Moon Ceremonies celebrate Grandmother Moon, the Waters, and Women as Keepers of the Waters. Everyone is invited to this event on June 14th, 7 p.m. Noojimo’iwewin Gitigaan 729 St. Clair W. at Rushton Road. This event is funded in part by a Park People Sparking Change microgrant.

The Sacred Fire will be lit at 7 p.m. Women and 2 Spirit/trans and intersex people who wish to join in the Women’s Ceremony will then be invited to gather inside for Songs and Teachings led by Elder Peduhbun Migizi Kwe/Catherine Brooks.

Men and others not participating in the Lodge will remain outside in conversation with Firekeeper Greg Loon (Fort Albany FN). The Native Men’s Residence where he once lived features Greg’s story as one of their “Success Stories.”

Everyone will take part in a Feast to include dishes made by local Chef Charles Catchpole, as well as an outdoor Ceremony led by Elder Catherine once the Moon rises. We will dedicate Bert Whitecrow’s “Ode’min Giizas,” painted to complement the rain gardens shaped like phases of the moon, winding path, and conversation circle they designed last year.
